What a massive long weekend of junior racing we had around the country: from the three-day tours in Victoria; to the country music junior tour in Tamworth.  From the rolling hills of the Mersey Valley Devonport Junior Tour to over in the West with the time honoured Peel JT… it sounds as if everyone was on the bike with good solid and safe racing all round.

To the Victorian 3DT’s first up and both the Northern Combine and Bendigo offered junior racing with multiple grades.  Graded racing offers stronger age-group riders the opportunity to race older kids, while offering less developed riders a chance to race against riders of similar ability.  It also mixes the boys and girls and, not unlike MasterChef at the moment, I’ve heard a number of the grades became a bit of a battle of the sexes… all in good fun of course!  Results can be found here for the Northern Combine and in this story for the Bendigo Junior tour.

Over West, despite a number of the leading local under-17 riders being in Tassie for a training camp, followed by the MVDCC JT, 61 riders suited up in wet and windy conditions with some great results.  In the JM17’s Michael Storer is continuing his fine run of form after wins in the Santos JT and Wagga Wagga JT while bottom-aged Jarrod Karrol held on for second after a strong ITT.

Meanwhile on the Apple Isle it was Storer’s fellow West Australian, Matthew Jackson leading all comers in the competitive JM17 category.  On a parcours of rolling Tassie hills – with some super steep ones thrown in for good measure – and unseasonably pleasant weather, those competing had a great experience.  They weren’t super big fields but the super big trophies made up for that.  Results and photos can be found on the MVDCC Facebook page.

Up in Tamworth 85 juniors tuned up on the roller coaster course around Loomberah.  Perusing the results shows nothing unexpected with Sam Jenner continuing his solid performances in the JM17A category while bottom-year JM15 rider, Mitch Wright, came out on top of his older rivals.  In the girls, Anna-Leeza Hull was dominate in the Jw17s with Natasha Mullany taking the win over Chloe Heffernan in the Jw15s.

This blog wasn’t meant to become a race report, but things are a trifle busy at present and for sake of getting something positive up, thought highlighting the amount of junior racing on around the country was worthwhile.  Thanks to all for use of the photos.

This weekend sees the Shepparton Junior Tour in Victoria.  With course maps and program info having been up for over a week, things auger well for a well organised and enjoyable event.  In SA its the State Junior Road Champs on Sunday with local racing elsewhere.  Feel free to send in reports/results and I’ll post them on this blog.
